Definitely not my experience, you must have had some bad architects, just like there are good and bad electricians. The real point is, you have redress in suing them. I can tell you who are worse project managers, vicars. I can just see it now getting Johnny come lately to do the building work takes 6k can't get hold of him, plumber that don't arrive at the right time. It's a disaster waiting to happen imho.

I have worked directly with some of the largest Architectural practice's in the UK on multi million pound projects, and none of them made good Project Managers, in fact I sued one of them and they went out of business rather than face the action, they had a "Sir" at the beginning of their name and renamed themselves without it to continue practicing.

I fear your last sentence may be the reality.

I've already heard the word volunteers mentioned.

Am currently working on not so much an exit plan as a whippet with a bum full of dynamite plan.

I have enough stuff and am also concerned taking something this size would impinge on the day to day stuff. I've only been back self employed for just over a year. Have nice reviews on Trusted Trader and do not want to alienate my customer base with availability issues.

FYI Tested in court on a volunteer river clean up a few years ago, the persons doing the work are considered at work for the purpose of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the person ordering the work to be carried out must be conversant with the dangers involved with the operation ordered and is responsible under the said Act.

I certainly have never worked on such a large scale as multi million, maybe multi thousands. At least you can cover loss as they are professionally indemnified. Maybe even a good firm with good will might help. It is so often the case that things go wrong. From plasterers filling up switch boxes to the latest, guys arrived on site after all work done to put electric shutters in. Used the supply off of external emergency lights that were on a photo cell (only on at nights) so no shutter operation in the day! Put the light on a parapet with flexi and gaffer taped, outside mind you, the wires together. I despair!
