Even going beyond the ability to play an instrument, very few musicians who chart can write songs.

Nothings changed there.... all the big singers from even the 60's sang other peoples songs.

That's true, but the likes of Dionne Warwick was in a completely different class to many of today's 'stars' ?

Anything by Dr Hook or Johnny Cash is usually quality stuff.
