Hi all,

Who applies diversity to a built in oven (as opposed to a cooker)?
Some do and some say you must not.

An example would be a single built in oven, total load of 3.4kW; in theory it will draw nearly 15 Amps, however if one applies diversity (W/O a socket) it will draw just under 11.5 Amps. So, in theory, it could go on a 13A supply.

Thoughts please!

The diversity here is for all cooking appliances eg oven cooker
so follow page 111 in the on site guide.
dont ask for a reg number please.

Is it a cooking appliance? If it is then you apply diversity according to the cooking appliances section of the diversity table.
Or alternatively if you've got half an ounce of common sense you can look at how many of the elements can actually be switched on at once and see what sort of load that gives you. A single oven of 3.4KW is could be a 2.4KW grill and a 1.2KW oven, then the most you can switch on at once is 2.4KW so a 10A supply would be adequate.

Thanks for the response. I understand the diversity calculation, it's just that some people say it only applies to cookers not ovens.
I agree with the theory of not being able to pull full load because of thermostats and also it may not be possible to switch both elements on at the same time.
However, a few manufacturers I deal with have stated ''Diversity must not be applied to ovens'' and the total stated load must be used in any calculations.

Which manufacturers exactly?
I completely agree that diversity cannot be applied to an oven on its own, but if an appliance is formed of both an oven and a grill in the same single unit and cannot be switched on at the same time then you can use your brain and determine the maximum possible connected load.
