Hi guys

I am looking for some advice; I am interested in starting a business specialising in home automation installs but not sure where to start. I've done some research and it seems some of the big brands I should be installing are companies such as Centron, Lutron, Control4 & Savant.

I am a qualified electrician of 3 years so feel the install side should not be too difficult for me in terms of 1st & 2nd fixing, I am also currently working in Australia for the year with a bloke who installs a lot of C-BUS systems so hoping to gain more of an insight there also.

In my opinion the big hurdle for me would be the programming side, setting scenes etc, i am not exactly a dinosaur when it comes to tech as i am 27 but im also not the most tech savvy, I have read however the above companies provide training on this. I return to the UK in May and was thinking of spending a year or 2 working for an AV company before starting on my own.

Would be interested to know if anyone specialises in the same thing or has any advice to offer.

Cheers

Just installed cabling for Loxone.
They commissioned the system, but to be fair it looked pretty simple to do,folllowing the on screen
Prompts.
They also train you.

I dont specialise as i have lots of other interests but i am a certified KNX installer. KNX is the only global standard and has all the big boys like ABB, Schneider, GIRA, Theben etc. Its non proprietory to a manufacturer and there are products to automate just about everything. To become an installer, you take a course and pass an exam. Software is OK, not plug and play but tech support is very good.
Great thing for you would be able to use this skill anywhere in the world you want to work. Project i am working on includes automation of: lighting, UFH, MHVR, GSHP, Intruder, Fire, CCTV, gates, door entry with lovely touch screens.. lol
