I am interested in training as a "Smart Meter Installer" but am struggling to find any companies/recruitment agencies with vacancies.
I presently work as a Meter Operative for a Data Collection company who used to offer training but recently opportunities to upskill have become "few and far between". Apart from 7 years working as a "Meter Op" I have no formal qualifications in Electricity or Gas.
I have found this self funding option by a training company called ECTA Become a Smart Meter Installer with ECTA Training in Stockport - https://ectatraining.co.uk/become-smart-meter-installer/
This option will require a financial contribution from myself of ÂŁ7440 and involves 13weeks of training - 7 weeks classroom study & 6 weeks training "on the job" near my home postcode.
Is anyone familiar with this course and can anyone vouch for it?

The text in the advert suggests you are only accepted on the training after you've been offered employment in the industry.
On the face of it you have nothing to loose or pay out untill after the Open Day, so may be worth going and have a look.
Don't concentrate too much on the higher salary quoted, there's going to be a catch like only paid when on site or pay your own transport costs etc.
You need to be asking a lot of questions on the Open day.

Invest in your future! ECTA have partnerships with some of the best Smart Meter installation companies in the country and you will meet these employers when you attend one of our Open Days. You will see the centre, get to meet the trainers, and attend an interview with employers actively recruiting for Smart Meter installers in your area. Only once you fully understand the process and accepted by the employer will you be booked on to the course. Salaries and packages differ between employers, with some offering a higher salary, but some offering competitive bonus schemes, however you can expect to be achieving an OTE of between ÂŁ26k - ÂŁ40k per annum.
