Hi all got my elecsa electrical assessment next week, I'm pretty nervous about it. Im showing him a re wire with a 15 way consumer unit as it's my first assessment. Has anyone got any advice about what to expect?

My assessor is called ray chivers has anyone come across before?

Thanks chris.

It'll be fine. Make sure you have all of your paperwork together (what's required is listed in the welcome pack). Ensure that you have the necessary certificate for the CU change and be prepared to be asked to test a few circuits (using the correct procedures).

Offer him some nice biscuits.

But do make sure you have all the books in the library they ask for and all the documents prepared!!

Got all the paper work and books they ask for, all certificates and I'll definaltly be getting the biscuits, has anyone got any examples of questions they were asked tests carried out?

Thanks

My assessor asked me one question on each of the other building regs so may be worth a quick recap. You won't have to know all of them as they allow you to look up the answers but you should have a rough idea where to find the answers. A good book is the electricians guide to the building regs.
Good luck and don't panic........

Do you have a copy of the electricians guide to the building regs? I have heard that some assessors like us to have them

I would recommend amazon for all the regs and books we need,as when you type in one it comes up with a list and you can get a bundle deal on say the regs osg and guidance note 3 etc, actually thats reminded me,have you guys bought the bgb yet,the cheek of the iee, charging £60 or so and scrimping on the paper inside, its like rizla paper, never gonna last, used to be a book that could be left in the van,but not now, have a look and you will see what i mean.

I had my annual visit two weeks ago and it was straight forward.

As mentioned you need all the relavant documentation BS 7671 Elctricity at work act etc. You will also need to show your 17th Edition cert along with Public liability insurance your meter calabration certificate also.

You will have been sent a list of everything that you need so just tick it off as you put it out.

Have your documentation available that is copies of estiamates EIC's & Minor works certs as he will make sure you are filling them in correctly.

The tests that you are asked to carry out vary but ZE PFC and RCD tests are the ones I get asked every year also take off a few socket fronts and switches to have a look inside making sure it is as it should be and if down lights are fitted you may be asked to pop one out to be checked. He also had a good look inside the CU when the cover was off.

Don't forget safety when doing your tests and make sure you take the correct equipment along with you.

This year I was asked to log onto the website and he looked at all the jobs that I have notified in the last 3 months.

Good luck with the assessement!
