Hi all,

My mates neighbour has bought a dual fuel cooker to replace an old full gas cooker, and realising upon delivery that it doesn't come with a supply flex, I was called in to attach one and connect up. As suspected, I arrived to find no cooker control unit (they thought it could just be plugged into the socket outlet that is behind the gas cooker - part of the 32A kitchen ring).

Obviously now they need a cooker circuit installed, however there is no RCD protection on the system, but they have 1 spare way in the CU, so I am thinking that the solution would be to install a small 1-way sub-CU with RCD from that spare way on the main CU, to supply the cooker, which requires 32A breaker, so 40A at the main CU.

Would this configuration be adequate if they don't want a new board? Any advice/ suggestions would be most appreciated.

What's the electrical rating of the new cooker?

Can an RCBO be fitted in the existing board?

Can the new circuit be installed using a method that it doesn't require RCD protection?

If you really need to add an RCD, just put it in a two module enclosure. You don't need two MCBs in series.

Thanks for all the input... don't know why i didn't think of rcbo... but it was late and been a long day. Since its going to be a new circuit and i'm not part p yet, i will just be suggesting on this one. Thanks again :)
