Electric Meter With key in dept

I have just completed a rewire for a customer but their on a key meter, i put £10 on it and it says that there is £144 in dept. how can you get in dept on a key meter? Bit foggy on this bit sorry for sounding simple lol. Any help appreciated.

Does the customer let their new supplier know and they come out and clear the balance on it?

How have you done a rewire if you are a trainee?

It gets in debt ​usually by being fiddled in some way or another. If the customer has just moved in they need to report it pronto. The supplier will then chase the previous owner for the outstanding money.

If it is the figure displayed on display 'S' (on the left), that's the amount the customer still owes on their bill.
£X are taking off it each time they charge the meter up.

There are many reasons for acquiring debt on the front screen.If the recovery rate is not kept on top of, or standing charge, ie if property empty it will still take all owning on it,ring supplier up they might do an wipedown only if its change of tenancy, else you will have to top up.

Maybe if you tell us which department the meter is in we could help you?

It could be that the supplier fitted a pre payment meter as the customer owed money from not paying the quarterly bill.

Whatever the reason I'd still be wanting that £10 back!
