I'm currently working with a Rotherham based company to recruit an apprentice and a qualified electrician.
Had 50+ applications for the apprentice opportunity but 0 for the electrician role.

Any advice on where qualified electricians. that may be looking for a new opportunity. hang out, well received!

More info on the role here:

Might be that better paid work is available in the area.

Is £17-£20/hr competitive in Rotherham at the moment? It's the sort of wage that might tempt someone at times of high unemployment, but is it going to attract people who have an abundance of well paid work?

I think so, as that is the base range for a normal working week, excluding the overnight allowance payment and any overtime worked payments

Thanks for messaging back

If there isn't a surplus of electricians in the area, I'd be asking what might tempt them to abondon their current employment for which they're already paid roughly the same rate. People generally seek employment for three reasons: more money, better conditions or unemployment/change of career. We can discount more money and unemployment/change of career, so perhaps concentrate on better conditions, if you feel this employer can offer that. Right now we have a seller's market and electricians have long been poorly remunerated in relation to their training - it's unlikely that many will jump ship without good reason.

To put this in perspective, I'm an adult apprentice in another part of the UK known for low wages and I wouldn't be in any hurry to leave my employer for the rate being offered to time served electricians in Rotherham.

£35-40K It's not competitive, it average for an easy jobbing electrician to pick up this sort of money so it's going to be difficult to get someone to leave a job they are already in.

Best bet hang fire for a week or two and you will most likely get some one who finished in a job coming along looking to for something to keep them going. A better idea may be to advertise realistic earnings and benefits as these make a big difference.

EDIT just noticed nicebutdim says about the same, sorry.
