Morning guys,

Appliances are not my forte but I'm helping a friend. I've replaced his 1800W element that was blown. When I turn the isolator on the element in question just goes on by itself, without even turning it on at the knob. Obviously this is why the last one burned out.

Any ideas why this is happening guys.

The cooker is a zannussi and is over 12 years old.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

switch/thermostat knackered. get the meter out.

Its common when elements blow that the large current welds the contacts in the stat (control knob) .. afraid it sounds like you need to replace the control stat too.

Yep its usally the oven or the most used ring. If its fan assisted then take the cover off and the element should be distorted.

I know this because I will repair my own cooker but not in my business (too much bother)
