I had thought of that but I would have to see his record of test results. I wasn't asked anything about my current system. What I had connected etc.

Maybe he just routinely carries out IR by connecting Line and Neutral together.

Which IMHO isn't really acceptable when doing new/additional work on a circuit.

It all sounds like a bodge on the cheap!
