Hi guys and girls

I'm doing some work on a old cottage and the clients want an old outside PIR light replacing.

The circuit is on the lighting circuit but I can't see where the cable enters the property I can only see where it cones out the wall from on the outside. There is no FCU on the inside so I think it may go in in the ceiling/floor void somewhere.

The client wants minimal disruption so i'm inclined to put an external FCU where the cables comes out the wall but not sure this is ideal from a security point of view. Was just wondering if anyone has any other solutions as an alternative?

Thanks in advance :)

if it's on the lighting circuit, it's already fused (or MCB) at 5A or 6A, so the only advantage of a FCU would be for isolation, otherwise it's not required. just swap fitting for a LED unit. if the new fitting has tails alredy fitted, you will need a wiska box. Screwfix sell LED fittings thay you wire directly into.

Ah thanks guys, i had it in my head an FCU is required if a cable goes from inside to outside, not sure where I got that from then. Unless I was mixing it up with downrating.

I'd still like a form of isolation on it but if its ok to not have one on there then I might just do the straight replacement then.

as it'salikeforlike replacement, there'sno need to alter the circuitry, unless , of course, you find it's not suitable/dangerous/ or faulty.
