Failed AM2 Fault Finding 3 times!!! hope somebody can help me, I’ve spoken with the examiner, he said my fault finding itself is fine it’s just my writing/explanation. Can someone give me some examples of what to write so I can pass it this time!? Thanks

Would you be able to provide an example of what you found and how you wrote it up?

You just need to put into writing exactly how you found the fault and what tests you did to verify it. For example, if it was an L-N short you may have carried out an insulation resistance test at 500v and got a reading of 0.01 ohms which shows you have a dead short and so on. It's to show that you actually know what your doing rather than just finding the fault through luck.

We are supplied with a continuity/high resistance tester, we have a full Meghan test kit for the test

Thanks, At our exam we only get supplied with a continuity/high resistance tester, from what some people have told me it’s much more simple than that but I appear to be working something wrong?

Hi Tim, say for example it’s an open circuit between mcb and Switch fused spur for CO2 detector. I would write open circuit on the line conductor (brown) of FP200 cable between MCB at DB and switch fused spur.

Recommended remedial work:
• check cable for damage.
• Repair cable if possible.
• Replace/Re-wire cable if necessary.
• RE-TEST!

So in that example, I would expect:
Db reference if any
Circuit reference (which MCB)
Test that identified fault (R1 + R2 probably)
Result - infinite ohms
Further tests that identify its Line and not CPC which is broken , R1 + RN, and RN + R2
Results
Conclusion - R1 broken
Then as you said.

Maybe think in terms of what you’d write down for someone else has to come and repeat tests, confirm your results , fix it, and retest.
I might be way off but that would be my answer. Others who have done this more recently might be able to say if I’m on right lines or not.

Hi, does anyone know how many faults you need to find for the AM2S ? Thanks !
