Hi

I have a Corby 7700 trouser press it is a 220w model, 3 years 10 month old.

On Friday it stopped working, so I took it to the garage ready for the tip.

This morning I plugged it in, and it worked.

I then Tried it in every socket in the house and nothing, the house has 4 circuits, a collection of ring and radial .

Back to the garage.. and it worked.

I have tested my house sockets, every single one is 239-241v

I plugged a kettle in one house socket and a tester in the other and it reads 239v, so i turned the kettle on still 239v kettle boiled no problem.

The garage socket is 239v

All my other items, cooker, dishwasher dryer in fact everything in the house work in all sockets.

The garage is fed from the same consumer unit as the house, on its own MSB (it has 2 x sockets and a light)

1 The trouser press sequence is plug it in, the display lights up.

2 Press the time button, the display accepts it.

3 Press the power button, the red light comes on and the press warms up.

In the garage all 3 sequences work and it is fine, heats up no problem.

In the house it is fine on one and two but on 3 the red light comes on for 2 seconds then goes out.

I am assuming that stage 3 is telling the heater element to come on?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Regards

Mark

I suspect a poor connection on the house socket circuit somewhere, which is showing up when the appliance tries to draw more power when the heating element kicks in.

It may be worth getting an electrician in to do some checks. He will likely perform a loop impedance test.
