I have never heard this before. Can you explain why?

It’s more the crimps on the end. They give a better connection under screw terminals rather than multi strand flex.
The OP may not have the right tools to fit new crimps.

Thank you all for your advice, we had the hob fitted by an electrician, both live wires were connected up and it’s all working fine.
