UK Fixed appliance wiring colours - is non-standard ok?!?

would never have known it was non standard colours until the plug was cut off.

Can you continuity test between the cut-off plug and the remaining wires still attached to it, or did you cut it so close, theres no flex left to strip?

Ooooh. Now that would've been a good idea...even though I did cut it right at the plug...but instead I decided to shear off the top of the plug to look inside but that was hopeless (couldn't see anything and destroyed everything in the process ). Silly move on my part!!

In fact that's not just a good idea, that's an effin' brilliant idea and now I'm furious with myself for not thinking of it before I mangled the plug

Hiya just had the same issue, continuity tested the plug and got the following pin out:

Grey: Earth
Black: neutral
Brown: live
