I do double over, if I got ferrules to hand though ill use them.

why not gives a better connection with flex, if it had a proper terminal and not just a screw down onto cable I wouldn't usually bother

Again, if it's just a screw straight onto the cable I'd use a ferrule.

I believe its to do with the cable strands, can become displaced.

You haven't and most of the time i do the same method as you, but if i saw someone had used ferrules i wouldn't fall over shocked at the nonsense
