The issue we have here really is that you should be an Electrician , because as much as advice can be given this is really meant for qualified electricians , and the work you are proposing requires notification to LABC as well
Post should have been in the DIY section in the first place.

The current CU already has a smoke detector installed supplying only one point so I will be replacing the existing detector with interconnected units (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs). I totally understand your scepticism in my ability as my questions are very basic but im just wanting to double check with people who are more experienced than myself, as I am as Ray has guessed new to the industry, but my quality of work is always to a high standard, just looking for some re-assurance that's all!!

You sound utterly out of your depth, your understanding of the regs is poor, you can't seem to make very basic decisions about very basic stuff, you should probably not be working unsupervised.

How's that ?

Ok on your suggestion I will bring it to his attention again and strongly suggest he changes the entire board!! excuse my ignorance but not quite sure what you mean by "inconvenience". Assuming I convince him to change the entire board what would your suggestion be then, it would make sense in my mind to just run the 2 circuits needed straight from the board and again would a radial be sufficient for the power??
tell him its a board change...to comply with the 17th ed....leave enough spare ways for you to come off it with your proposed finals....

This is the first garage conversion I've ever done so just wanted to make sure I get it right as far as regs are concerned and also to be a cost efficient as possible.
just reading through this....

come on, lets face it, its the first of anything you`v done really.....isn`t it.

just be adult enough to admit it...your talking to electricians in here...not jobeys....

so at least do us all the courtesy of being truthful

Then surely he should be qualified and not need to ask.

Are you implying that a qualified sparx can do every single electrical task known to man?

Tomorrow, can you please go and install a 50v DC power system with 300ah worth of battery backup, fully commissioned. I can do it, so surely you can too?

Idiot.

hmm OK.

so is this `design` homework?

come on..is it real?

I can help anyone out if they need that sort of help , but not if they are going to do work as suggested here and they are not a sparks , I draw a line on advising unqualified persons from carrying out work that they clearly should not be doing ,
