I assume your talking about thin stranded almost flex like cable?? if your using a knife watch the strands if crimping you may need "bell end" crimps as strrands splay when stripped
If it's straight single core insulated I use a pipe cutter on everything above 10mm² , does a very tidy cut and very cheep. Also Works well on double insulated single core.
