Hi,

I have a Grant outdoor oil combi to do for my mother inlaw tomorrow, but she can't find the manual so I can wire it. I have a 2 channel programmer in the van. There is 4 core flex in the hall going to the position of the boiler, the spur for the boiler is in the dining room (boiler sat outside next to this spur). She wants the programmer in the old airing cupboard out of sight. Anyone got a wiring diagram at all? I hate oil combi's why can't they just have a god damn time clock like a gas boiler.

Thanks

BILs got an "outdoor boiler" Mind have a small electric heater in the box on a frost stat for the realy cold weather

If it is a combi, only the CH will need wiring via the timeclock as DHW is 'on demand'.

A 4 core flex will suffice here, PL, N, E & SL for the CH. You may need to remove the factory fitted link when you terminate your SL in the boiler, usually to terminal 4.

Got it done yesterday, this oil combi has a 50 litre storage tank inside it, so it's not a true combi. I had to use a 2 channel programmer.

After I finished the mother in law found the manuals. Why do they show S Plan, Y Plan, C Plan every plan except for a oil combi which isn't a actual combi? Oh and the plumber decided to trap my 10mm earth under the boiler. Sorry "heating engineer"

Don't you have to be offtec registered to do electrical work on an oil boiler? I thought even a programmer was notifiable under their scheme.

no,
an OFTEC 101 registered technician, would need to have OFTEC 103 (if remember the number right), completed to sign it off. As you're not an OFTEC technician, you don't need to worry, electrician will suffice.
that OFTEC malarky is vastly different to the schemes you domestic sparks sign up to.
i'm OFTEC 101 trained (install/commission oil firing appliances) but not OFTEC 101 registered, and £400 odd better off for it.

Thanks. I did check the OFTEC website before and it does say something about an electrician being limited to only removing the front boiler cover and doing nothing further. Probably all lies to steal away work from starving electricians.
