So the plasterers are getting on with their job of prepping the walls and are nearly done removing the old plaster - had to go back to the brick in some rooms or to just studwork as the lath and plaster was just crumbling away.

Now it will be the electricians turn to remove all the old wiring and rewire the new sockets and lights - which will be made easier as the house is bare.

Now after he has put in the sockets (but not the fronts and wired up the new CU - does he then go away and the plasters come back to board up and do the skim plaster - is this known as the first fix? The electrician then returns to attach the socket fronts and have everything connected up - the second fix?

ytou are not far out there. sparks installs cables and back boxes... first fix. plasterer comes and spreads his muck, sparks comes back when plaster is dry. smashes holes to find the boxes the muck spreaders have filled, then spends 2 hours belling out the cables that the muck spreaders have cut short. thenremoving wet-pants' pipes from in front of socket boxes and consumer unit. typical day in the work of a sparks.

I am in tears at this description.

The plasterers have shall I say been very rudimentary with the walls. What started off as just simple wall prep has ended up being taking it back to the brick, thankfully the ceilings will just be boarded over as the thought of all that lath and plaster being taken off the ceilings would be too much.

They have messed up some of the central heating pipes as well. Well as its a team they do work quick - I suppose thats the best I can say.

Basically
First fix is everything that needs doing before plastering.
Second fix is everything that needs doing after plastering.

It's unusual for plasterers to be doing any demolition/removing old plaster.

Also I'd have those lathe and plaster ceiling removed while I can if I was you. Make all the mess now rather than having to take the ceilings down 6 months after you've finished the job.
