hi guys , please excuse my ignorance but to incorporate RJ45 data points into an existing building does the main incoming BT cable also have to be 4 pair cable ? tia

You only nead 1 pair for a bt line but for whar it worth i would just use the 4 par cat 5 ot cat 6 that way if you ever nead a extra telephone line in the future the cable will aready be there.

cat5 is data networking, wired between computers and a network switch/router. bt is a telephone line. nothing to with data networking except is worth having a master socket fitted where the router is going to go (there is a phone line socket on an ADSL router)
