The sad fact is there is many of these small pie and bean companies being run like this and they all have a revolving door of sparks that work for them,it is time to move on.

Im from Yorkshire yer all wimps lol when i was 17 my then boss punched me had me working 70hrs a week on a 27.50wage JIB scheme rate then 20yrs later when he had me paying his mortgage still and 19 yrs after he saw the respect for me and treated me ok he kicked off again tried hitting me and missed .... i lamped him walked out and set up on my own taking all his industrial as he couldn't do it and no-one else in the company could he didn't have a legal leg to stand on.....

So if you want to wait 20yrs like i did to get payback or do the sensible thing and find another job accept it then drop him deep in the doo doo when the time is right .... make sure he knows that you owe him no favours for him been a w......r of a boss and a eye opener to the knobs out there.
£27.50PW, I remember those days, my boss had me washing his van in the snow, whipping me with cable ends and just generally treating me like a skivvy. I stuck it out and left after my apprenticeship finished, went contracting, and the rest is history as they say. To be honest apart from the beatings it made me appreciate hard work and just getting on with it.

Send me all his details and what he's being make you do, and I'll report him.

report him.. is that a euphemism for 'add him to the foundations of a building'

48 hours a week? Thats part time!

I work for an equally **** company although i am in more than minimum wage which i should be ( and am) grateful for.

Im the only engineer (and not a hugely experienced/knowlegeable one at that) and im keeping 3 managers going. Figure that one out. Instead of jumping ship and burning bridges ive been setting up my own company. I usually leave work at 6pm then go to my own jobs till 10 then homeward bound to do the paper work. Up at 6am and repeat 6/7 days a week. The other month i did 36days solid haha

Its a killer. If i wasn't setting up on my own i would of tried to get another job however i just don't see myself being very employable. Sure ive got my level 3 17th etc. But technically ive never worked for an electrical firm!

Best of luck to you matey. If i could go back 6 years to when i got that job i would of conducted myself very differently. Knock it on the head as soon as you can before you become number one workbitch.

Hahaha...I was thinking more along the likes of Blackpool!

@ OP, this :-------: can't make you work more than 48 hours a week (unless you've agreed to, which I hope you haven't!!!)
He's breaking The Law, see...
The Working Time Regulations 1998

Send me all his details and what he's being make you do, and I'll report him.
(You may guess I despise people like this cretin)
That's an idea, PM the details to me too, I'll pose as an employee who walked off a job as an objection to the disregard for H&S. If a lot of people do it they'll have to take some sort of action against him.

nothing has changed much then, worked for a mob in London 33yrs ago yeah long time, just coming out of my time, boss had me running sites, subbies working under me, an paying me peanuts. stick with if you can gain your experience and ticket then do one!!.

I don't think he should be sticking with endangering his life due to asbestos. Also, do the extra hours he is making you work bring you below the minimum wage?

if you was applying to me, I would send what you wrote here.

one little tip, if you going to drill asbestos at least for your own sake put ppe on, and use some PVA over the drill hole to prevent the fibres becoming airborne.

The other tip is drill slowlyand cover the bit with shaving foam.

The foam holds the fibre and prevents is flying off. I know its sounds odd but its what was recomended at an Asbestos awareness course i was on. Get the cheep stuff from poundstrecher

I haven't looked through your link which I'm sure leaves me very open a battering :) but I'm sure with the working time regs there are a couple of flaws. 1. You can opt out and 2. The 48hrs per week is for a rolling 17 week period, you really have to be putting in some hours to fall into that bracket, although it certainly sounds like he maybe doing that. All saying that the OP certainly has a case for unsafe working practices etc regarding the asbestos and there is no doubting his boss is a knob. Good luck with whatever decision you decide on. PS Give Archy his name :)

This has got to be a wind up right ?

£50 a day and expected unpaid overtime, including no money for mileage ? What do you get for your christmas bonus, and kick in the ******** and a crap sandwich ?

I think you know you should be looking for another job as soon as possible. If all this is true, your boss is taking the proverbial in a way I have never heard of.

As his boss is called Ebenezeer Scrooge now't as he will expected to work christmas day for nothing.

I don't think I'll be using this tip anytime soon! Was it an approved asbestos awareness course?

well i have loged this post so in future when i employ someone i can offer them £55.00 per day and think themselves lucky.
i mean what a cheek! at 12 hours pday its nearly a fiver an hour! some of these youngsters don't know how lucky they are! in my day i didn't have monney to spend on fancy cars, it was the push bike or my legs.
your employer is probably trying to make up for all the cable your taking home?
a car indeed!

i mean what a cheek! at 12 hours pday its nearly a fiver an hour!

Which is also against the law (depending on age). If indeed it is 12 hours per day and Stg £50 per day then that works out at under £4.17 per hour which is unlawful for anyone not under the age of 18.

that's another thing employing say a 12 year old works out alot cheaper and you don't have to pay the minimum wage. usually a pack of smokes and some beer is more than enough.plus the kids these days are huge.
