I've not posted on here for a while and debated whether to with this or not as I don't want to appear to be gloating etc. But it's far from a gloating post, more of 'you can do it'.....
But here goes anyway..
The moral of the story is really one of don't give up at all no matter the age or knock backs you may get.

Short story is I went back to college in my mid 30's on the C&G 2330 level 2 and the slightly revised C&G / EAL 2330 / 2357, anyway needed a placement last year and managed to get sorted at the local power station and was lucky to get 6 months work there too, after placement ended. Out of work just after Christmas 2012 and applied for every electrical job going and even sent CV's to firms who needed someone like me.
Got a call from a data comms firm who specialise in highways work, I am now installing gantries on the M6, wiring up boxes, panels, equipment I never thought I would ever get my hands on. It's a far cry from 'house bashing' which I thought I would be doing after college.
I only ever sent my CV to domestic installers, but I would send them to every man and his dog as you never know. I was lucky and I know that, but I work hard and give no one any reason to regret their decision.
I am now 40 and loving every minute working out in the rain, wind and the odd bit of sun.
Don't give up, you'll feel on top of the world when you get that call. It's easy to sack it off and think no one will ever take me on, they will and just keep on at it.

Thanks for reading.....

Great news ebow, doesnt sound like gloating to me. Sounds like you are getting invaluable experience!!!

Yes I remember you going through the courses and the hassle you had with that, turned out ok in the end mate well done and fair play to you well desreved after all your hard work

One thing, never think the road you’re on will end where you thought it would.

I started on the electrical road. How the hell did I find myself as production manager?
Twice!

Aye, you're right there, I would like to think college will try and expand their focus to just more than domestic work. We probably have about 100 + sparks in the 15 - 20 mile radius and every year they must get inundated with students etc contacting them. If I knew what I knew now I would of contacted industrial firms long ago...but it's all good fun...

Yes mate not bad still struggling with juggling being a carer and trying to get going properly and hopefully earn a crust lol

I went back to college mid 20s and didn't find work until I was 28, by which time id done my 2330 and 2391, was laid off first job after 3 and a half months and was on my knees. Found **** house bashing work after 3 and a half weeks of putting my cv about everywhere and contacting hundreds of companies, my job became finding work. After a month of doing that, I was contacted by an agency working for a housing association doing eicrs, and within 3 months, had my own van and testing equipment. Still going strong there now.

Yes I had luck but I also worked hard. If you work hard enough, you will succeed in this game.
