I'm looking at getting an induction hob fitted into a kitchen island, where would he the best place to put a cooker switch for this. Is there any regulations stating what distance away the switch can be as it's not really possible to put on the island itself.

In the cupboard below the hob?

Its always a good idea to have an isolation switch for things. But there is no regulation that says that you must have one for an induction hob, or an oven, etc.
Therefore, if you decide to have an isolation switch, you can put it wherever you like.
