Hi

Changing a light switch over, what is supposed to go in COM and L1

Ive tried a few options so far with the brown wiring but either get no light or the light comes on but the switch doesn't switch it off

Any help is appreciated

You should have two browns in COM and one in L1 assuming there is only one outgoing circuit. Just keep trying until it works there aren't many combinations it can be.

were all 3 blues joined together when the old switch was installed?

As Westy says, 2 browns together in Com, remaining brown in L1

Trial and error until you get the right 2 browns together.

One brown is the supply feed from the consumer unit, possibly via other room switches first.

Another brown is the supply going onto the next room

Last brown is the switched live up to this rooms light.
