hi guys,

have wired up my mates fully pumped system 2x2 port sprung returns valves. he has also plumbed in underfloor heating (Uponor system) as a separate system but obviously wants to run the same boiler.

ive been going through the drawings and having a fiddle in the wiring centre and i can see no possible way of running the two systems apart without the use of a couple of relays and a bit of thought. the wiring diagram for the uponor undefloor heating makes it appear very simple but on further investigation it is showing the underfloor being on with the normal heating but he doesnt want that.

the problem i see is that both the ehating systems require the use of the boiler and their own pump, i see it as pump runs boiler fires up, sounds simple but when wired as per diagrams etc both pumps become common and both run.

has anyone has this problem?

hopefully this all makes sense :)

thanks!!!

You've got 2 relays inthe uponor box. There's one for the pump and one for the boiler.

I'm sure In the past, i'v used one of these to do both the pump and the boiler, and the other to prevent backfeed. I'll try and sort you a diagram if your not in a rush.

hi richard thanks for the reply. thats what thought. that would be a great help if you could and be very very much appreciated

Bit difficult to picture what you are describing but I usually use contactors to ensure no back feeding and relevant pumps and valves are switched on.

hi vanman this is what i was thinking of doing as like you say it is the back feed causing th problem. i was unsure if going down the contactor route sounded over the top . unfortuantley my mate has under taken the uponor installation course for plumbers where they were told it was a very easy wiring installation

I tend to draw the circuits out myself so that I can follow the circuits and decide where contactors are needed. Its not a trivial job to sort out. then once you have designed it, its a feat to make it look half tidy!

After a bit of swearing arguing with each other I was finally correct, why are plumbers more concerned with our work rather than their own!? The plumber had got the primary and secondary back to front on the pump and had flow and return wrong on the manifold!!!

You do know that plumbers are sparkys with their brains removed, don’t you?

OH how often i get called back to heating systems by builder who have been told by the plumbers that it is wired wrong to find lockshields not opened, pumps seized, airlocks, and even non return valves put in the wrong way round! Many an excessive call out bill put in for them to reclaim from the plumbers invoice!
