why would a suppliers main cut out fuse an old type 60 / 80 blow . just installed a socket i isolated the whole fuse board added a new socket spur off the ring ,tested R1 -R2 and insulation resistance all expected values .turned main isolater back on at the fuse board and there was no power ....... any idears

It happens sometimes if you don't progressively switch all the loads back on, especially if its an ancient old fuse. I would imagine its happened to all of us, well to me at least, usually at about five to five on a Friday! Hmm decision time, do I cut the seal and replace it, or do I call out the DNO and wait four hours?

Possible main switch issue, large power surge when turning back on (unlikely though) or you really f****d up somewhere! Guaranteed if it were the last one you would be able to find the fault without the need for a test meter, the scorch marks and smell of burning would be the easy bit to find! ;)

no banging sound was heard no power to digital suppliers meter so checked continuity across cut out fuse as safty tags already being remove and fuse had blown was only a one bedroom flat not occupied no load drawn when turning main switch back on . can cut out fuses deteriate ?

.

hope you pulled the fuse before doing the continuity check...tired fuses can just fail when you switch a load on to them. if the seal is missing and you have a spare fuse, bung it in ( observing all safety precautions, no load on installation when you put the fuse in, etc. )
