I'm a bit out of touch re 18th edition.
Is it really necessary to fit loads of additional metal saddles inside trunking when it's only 400mm above the concrete ground floor of a sports hall?
All the stuff about premature collapse makes sense, but where, in this case, if the cable going to collapse to?
Where it goes up and round door frames, I've used loads of the folding metal clips, which is fair enough. But as it's MK 'Prestige' three-compartment dado trunking with power, audio and data, it would be a shed-load of clips and drilling into the concrete walls, which I really prefer not to do.
Thoughts?

it wasn’t n the 17th, but is now In the 18th.

it was a matter of if the cables prematurely colapse if they can cause entanglement in a fire route then metal clip them.

however due to electricians and others taking advantage of the clause “fire route” they removed it and said anywhere.

in practice however (400mm off floor) i understand why you would think not to bother given the minimal risk if any, but I still would as a matter of uniformity and best practice.

I missed it first time round.

My 2 cents, although 6 months late…..

Put the metal clips in.

If there was a fire, and the plastic melts… all those cables drop to the floor….
In a smoky room, firefighters may walk close to the wall to aid navigating when they can’t see well…. (I’m guessing… I’m not a firefighter)

All those dropped cables become a tripping hazard/ entanglement risk….. the very reason the metal clips with pvc trunking reg came in.

Especially if only half a yard off the ground....no doubt sorted now though, it was 6 months back.
Yup, all sorted now after six months. I did fit metal clips: every 1m on the low runs, and every 400mm over doors.
I specified plastic trunking (MK Prestige) as it looks better, and only badminton is ever played in there.
Most of the time it's a normal village hall, with tables, chairs, lunches and so on.
Unless the local geriatrics kick off about the quality of the sausages and mash then start busting the place up, I think my trunking will be safe 😀.
