Discuss Microwave tripping circuits on two separate CUs in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi All

Bit of a strange one...

My mother in law decided to poach an egg in the microwave, and whatever she did, the egg went bang and knocked out the kitchen sockets.

Strange thing is, it looks like this also tripped circuits on a separate CU which feeds external sockets & lights etc.

It could be that the external CU had already tripped before the kitchen sockets went off but there's no way to tell.

Both CUs are fed via a 4-pole (British Gas installed) isolation switch, so is there any way the microwave could have affected separate CUs?

Many thanks

Phil

External CU is possibly fed from CU feeding kitchen sockets. A few pictures would help, of the various CU's - not the eggs

The outside CU is independent of the internal CU. I have a 4-pole isolation switch after the meter, from the switch are the two CUs - other than sharing the same isolation switch, they're totally separate.

is it a flat . picture would help.

It's a house. I'll have to post a photo in the morning.

Hi Phil - welcome to the Forum !
When you say tripped - what exactly tripped on each board ?

The MCB for the kitchen sockets tripped on the house CU and the MCB for the outside sockets tripped on the outside CU - the outside CU only has one used MCB (for the outside sockets).

Many thanks for your replies.
