Need help with Ring door bell

Need some advice with installing a Ring doorbell as mains powered in oppose to battery powered.

I am pretty confident that I’ve sussed it out but I want to make sure before I go ahead and install it, it’s something that I’m not too familiar with.

Customer has a Ring 3 which I don’t think comes with the transformer so I know I need to get a 8-24V AC transformer to step down the voltage.

In regards to wiring, as far as I’m aware the transformer only needs a permanent feed (was going to spur off a socket into a fused spur then into the transformer) and then out of the transformer I can use bell wire or even cat5 and go straight into the door bell itself.

Is it really this easy? I keep seeing things about a chime. I know the Ring Pro doesn’t need one but I’m not too sure about the Ring 3.

If anyone has experience installing Ring doorbells and could help it would be much appreciated.

last on i did, tranny was din rail in the CU. from tranny to ring in alarm cable (24V).

Most of the references to a chime are to do with if you have an existing wired doorbell, where the transformer is sometimes in the chime and sometimes in the CU. (With some they provide a capactitor that has to be installed in some cases in the existing chime)

If you're wiring it fresh then you are fine with transformer suitably located, then suitable wire to the Ring. There is a plug in Ring Chime to add noise in case a device isn't around, but that's just a wireless device that plugs in and connects.

Not played with a Ring 3, and they each seem to have their individual methods

From the one I installed, (the original one I think) - they can be a bugger to set up on some appliances (Huawei didn't seem to like them) - because of the way the install app has to connect to the generated Wifi initially before it can change any settings.

Probably easier to set it up with a tablet than a phone - since many brands of phone get upset when they connect to a Wifi that doesn't have internet and bugger things up generally....
