New PAT tester needed!

Morning all,

Well my trusty PAT has decided to give up the ghost and isnt really worth repairing.

I dont really do much any more so dont really want to spend any more than around £300 for one, so, with that in mind, can anyone recommend one that would do the job? Im thinking more of a plug in and press a button type unit without all the fancy gizmos.

Ive seen Seward and Metrel do one around this price range, but the descriptions arent that good and would like to know if it covers all bases.

For a really budget option you could go for a kewtech PAT adapter for your MFT.
I havent used one myself so cant comment, but am looking at getting one for very infrequent PAT jobs.

I have a kewtech pat adaptor for my 17th ed tester it can be used for the basic minimum tests. Insulation, earth continuity and RCD, but limited as you have to set up each piece of equipment tested. if you only do a few I would put up with the slight inconvenience in favor of paying £15 rather than £300 for a specialised meter, it will take a lot of testing to make that money up if you only do a few.

what model is your tester? it may be fixable.....


I would say that the cheapest is a kewtech with one dial and 3 buttons, but it is basic.....for any big PAT testing jobs that come in occasionally then you could rent yourself a Fluke or Megger from one of the tester rental companies for a week or two...

Jason, The PAT adaptor is indeed a great way of keeping the costs down. As Andy has mentioned above, they are great for infrequent PAT testing.
