Hi all, This is my first post so hopefully it will appear correctly!

I have PAT tested my office for the last two tests after my boss put me on a course in which you watch a dvd and then take a test over the internet. The course is endorsed by NAPIT.

Now a family member has asked me to PAT test a flat that she is going to rent out and I don't know if I can carry out the test and provide a certificate. Do i need to have any insurance for instance?

I would like to know what qualifications/insurance and other things I would need to carry out PAT testing on the side as I have access to a tester and would like to make the most of it.

I am an electrician currently working for a fire alarm company.

Thanks

2million public liability insurance and you're good to go. you might consider professional indemnity insurance as well. the recognised qualification is c&g 2377 for pat testing.

Ensure you have calibration documentation as in the event of a claim it could be difficult to substantiate results otherwise.

I just bought a PAT tester 8 months ago and even though I did not have to do it i went to the local college and signed up for the 6 week night class as I found it a better way to take it in and got my C&G . so far after spending £800 I have turned over £250 and the tester is away for calibration but I am only looking for it to pay for itself within the year but now when asked to do it I can say yes and attach a copy of my C&G and calibration certificate.
