A bit of advice please. I don't like the idea of open recessed light fittings with zero ip rating any more than the next person but my client insists as she found the one's she likes at her local electrical suppliers and they are in stock. Personally I prefer the closed ones as they offer more protection from dust and creepy crawlies etc. Don't even mention fire rating. Existing ones are 12v but will be changing for LED GU10s. These are for a bedroom on the top floor. Any suggestions or views please.

I can't see any diffrence safety wise between open recessed fittings and a pendent light fitting. You can be equaly dangerous with either when fitting lamps.

sorry misunderstanding talking about open recessed and contained recessed. One you can see the loft when replacing the bulb the other you can't

safety wise, it's not a problem as the ceiling is, in itself, not a fire barrier. the main problem is insulation over the fittings if they are not designed to accept a carpet of itchy-poo over them.

So long as they are legal I will fit them just to make the client happy. I don't have strength to argue my point any more

Ah I get it now. Just take some earwigs or wood lice with you and drop a few into the first one you fit. Bet they aren't keen on them landing on the bed !

did you work in pest control?

it has been known for them to carry a pocket full of mouse droppings round so they can point them out when they "find them" under the kitchen cupboards.
makes acceptance of the quote an on the spot thing more often than not.
