Hi,

I have recently moved house and when i went to put up my new outside lights i came accross the following, a brown wire, a black wire, a grey wire and a bear wire with no insullation on. I cant find this set up in any of my referance books.

Can any one tell me what's what please?

Thanks Dan

It's 3 core & earth Dan
if it's on an outside light I suspect the light would be a pir type.
So you will probably have a perm live / a switched live / a neutral & the bare wire will be the cpc.

these are the new harmonised colours:eek:

Thanks guys,

I'm going to get a pro in i think to the job.

for my own mind have i got this right-

Brown is live, black is earth, grey is switch live, and the bare wire is circuit protective conductor?

Where does the CPC go?

Thanks again

Without testing each conductor we wouldn't know whats what but,
Brown = phase (peranent live)
Black = switched live (sleeved brown)
Grey = Neutral (sleeved blue)
Bare copper = CPC (earth)

Brown = phase (peranent live)
Black = switched live (sleeved brown)
Grey = Neutral (sleeved blue)
Bear = Yogi (or was it boo-boo?)
