Hello chaps...

Have been using a subby for a little while now on and off. Up until now have just been giving him 'cash' but as things are getting busy and I need him on a more regular basis I will be paying him direct via BACS.

Just want to see how I stand with this in regards to paying his CIS, do I have to do this and what is involved/how do I go about it if so ?

Is there anything else I might have also missed apart from CIS ?

Many Thanks,

Sy

think the best advice would be from an accountant.

As Telectrix said get an accountant to give you advice as if you get it wrong HMRC will be on you like a ton of bricks.

In principle, it depends.

Is he self employed? Is he a limited company?

Scope of work? Is it purely domestic, or mostly commercial, site work? - does the work he carries out fall within the scope of the CIS?

HMRC have a help and advice line for CIS questions atHM Revenue & Customs: Child Benefit: Introduction Telephone no is 0845 366 7899 8aqm - 8pm.

The best advice, however, will come from your accountant, as others have said, but the CIS site and helpline are good places to start - especially the "deciding if work comes under the CIS" link. It also sets out your subbie's requirements under CIS if you have to go that route.
