I have posted this before put dose not seem to of posted so sorry if is a repost I have added a few socket outlets to my ring main everything is working fine but for some reason when I have tested every socket with a socket tester some outlets read that L and N are swaped over only on a few sockets I have done the following

Tested tester to make sure it is not at fault
Unplugged everything

Can anyone tell me why is is happening and only on a few sockets

Thanks in advance

either you have wired some sockets reversed L and N or there is a reverse on an existing socket or a junction box.

I would suggest you carry out the correct continuity testing on the ring final circuit before energising and certainly before using a socket tester.

Continuity of ring final circuit conductors

Reason: This test ensures that all ring final circuits (sockets usually) are indeed a continuous ring with no interconnects or breaks within it.

Method: The line, neutral and earth conductors of the circuit are identified and a measurement from one end to the other end of each is taken. These results are r1, r2 and rn.
The incoming line conductor is then connected to the outgoing earth conductor and the outgoing line conductor is connected to the incoming earth conductor. A measurement is then taken at ALL socket outlets on the ring. This result is R1+R2 for that circuit. The above is then repeated using the neutral conductor instead of the earth conductor.

Can anyone tell me why is is happening and only on a few sockets Because there's a problem with those sockets.

Thanks in advance

Hope this helps.
