Yes that old chestnut...

It seems to invoke rage in some people but thats not what this is about...

My question is has anyone tried to be sneaky about getting a DNO out? I find the people on the phone are jobsworths but the actual guys that come out are as good as gold (WPD) at over £200 to fit a £15 isolator that takes all of 15mins is extortionate and priced in a way that seems like they dont want to do it but then they ban the likes of haste doing it.

My thinking is phone the DNO and say there is an issue with the tails being loose and causing heating issues so you need them isolating asap, maybe even ask if its ok for you to pull the fuse? Hopefully they send out a bloke pretty quick, when he arrives you tell him its ok you managed to fix the issue but it needs a new CU asap (Which you were going to do anyway), hand him an isolator and ask him while he is there if there is any chance he could pull the fuse to fit the isolator so that you can change the CU asap, with my interaction with WPD guys I think 90% would be ok with this.

With talk of Smart meters grassing those naughty sparks who do pull the fuse is it time for a new tactic?

Telling porkies like the tails are melting , probably isn’t the best idea Imo.
99% of the time I would Still just yank the main fuse myself & fit my own isolation switch.
the 1% of the time if the cutout / fuse / tails looks dodgy or broken then i would then phone the Dno and demand a replacement Them come out and kill the power & fix the cutout / fuse...

That wrong to tell porkies to the DNO if you don't have the bottle for the seial fears arys
Then get the customer to order some body
For the supplier to come and fit one.

The D.N.O aren't stupid, nor are any other Utility service like Gas and Water, they've dealt with thousands of people trying the same trick(s).

There is no need for lies. Just tell them you have fitted an isolator and can they connect it.
