You can turn off email notifications and just get your phone notify you when you get a reply. You have more control over it then becaue you can set it as silent or a different ping to important texts or whatever.

I hate push notifications and have set them all to off! Please get rid of the annoying nag message that won't go away even after I dismiss it!
