i've replaced loads of r63 lamps, in existing fittings, in the same premises. brand new lamps are going within sometimes hours! trying to maintain on a budget, but failing miserably!

i've tested the wiring, all ok.

i've tried low energy equivalents, only slightly better, and still not good!

is the only option to replace the fittings with something that takes a decent lamp?

The worst thing about these fittings are the lamp contacts , when the lamp gets hot the contacts loosen off and tarnish/ overheat then poor contact adding to more heat build up , your best bet is change the fittings if you can

have seen this problem myself a few times, seems to be due to poor connections arcing and sparking as the bulb warms up and moves a bit, this causes centre contact to loose it's springiness and problem gets worse. probably best to change fittings, how old are they
