Site is rented accomodation housing students (wipes spit off of screen) In each flat there are six bedrooms, each with ensuite shower and basin. There is an overhead light and a vanity over the basin.
Two off 32A Ring are installed, each one serves three bedrooms each. All lights on 16A Radial except...

The vanity light (IP4x) in each bathroom has been spurred off the ring at the same JB (in a riser) and is approx 2m from floor and 1.4m from the nearest extraneous conductin part (metal shower fittings. There are no partitions and both walls and floor are tiled (effectively a wet room)

I feel (as does the on-site sparks) that these luminaires and their method of install are innapropriate, however, we've both had a go at the Regs but can't form a cast-iron argument for the replacement of these fittings and/or their protection by RCD seperately from that on the Ring.

Any thoughts (all those not related to my incompetence or stupidity first please)

hi there

just a thought selv in zones ???

cheers:confused:

Hey there.

I'd be a bit concerned about the IP rating of the vanity unit light being 0 for water ingress and if as you say it is a wet room then I would say is not suitable.

Also, you say it's spurred off the ring, how is it fused down/switched then??

Cheers.

Apologies for the delay in response but been waiting for some feedback from on-site sparks and the small matter of trying to organise the T&I on a 150 acre site...

From what I can tell the IP rating of the luminaire isn't up to scratch (thanks Lenny) and I want to recommend the replacement of same soonest, however, when I look in The Big Red One (p. 168, Fig 701.1.e) it seems that no basin means no Zone 2? This is what's bugging me. Regs don't seem to refer to 'my' situation. Seems to me that common sense applies but try getting that past the bean counters when yr talking 2000 units to replace!

As for fusing I need to get to the bottom of it but I believe three vanities come off each ring from a single JB and I think the additional fusing is provided by a 1361 Fused Spur in the bathroom. Ratig not known but I'm off to have a look now!

As Penelope Pitstop would say, 'Hey-elp!'
