Reference methods

Hello

What reference method(s) would be used in a domestic installation?

I have looked at appendix four in BS7671 and the table that covers flat cables only describes cables in stud walls or above plasterboard with thermal insulation but what about cables under ground floor cables and cables chased in the wall?
