Had a floorboard up recently following a water leak. While there, thought I would connect in a stair light, which previously was switched separately to the landing one. Discovered a previously unknown junction box - not normally maintainable, but moving past that ... - wiring very neat, checked all the screws were tight, all well.

Hang on, where does this wire go, felt along it, seems to go through the ceiling, but no light there? Now, see photo. Eek! The device (smoke alarm) is double insulated, but ...

I know there’s one make that you need a back box in the ceiling to make a connection onto their floating cable…

Another good reason to use Aico detectors.
