I have to run some 6mm cable behind some copper pipes to a cooker switch and socket on the wall. Obviously I can't chase it into the wall behind the pipes, so is it acceptable to put an extra piece of cable sheath between the cable and the copper pipes to protect the cable?

Thanks.

It looks like gas and water pipes, 4 of them all running parallel. Shall I clip the cable to the wall above the pipes and then chase up to socket instead?

where are these pipes. vertical, horizontal, just below ceiling, floor level?????

The pipes are horizontal about 400mm from floor. They will be hidden behind kitchen units.

Thanks I'm best clipping above the pipes then cause there's no way I'm going to get it 25mm away if I go behind. I wonder why they specify for gas but not hot water? Would have thought hot water pipes would be more essential!

I believe the 25mm min distance can be reduced if you interpose a non-conductive barrier between the gas pipe and cable, or wrap the pipe in PVC.

Look at the OSG page 18.

A length of trunking usually does the trick.
