the SW+F on the pvc is a huge giveaway to what the cable is as well lol

Or strip a larger diameter cable and use it's sheath

Speaking of which, is that an acceptable method (if stuck)? Not done it myself but have seen it!

perfectly acceptable. it sleeved, innit? used a bvit of skin off 6mm or 10mm myself a time or 2.

It works, it dose the job and all within the regs. Saying that, always have a bit brown and blue sleeve in the bottom of your tool box or van. Tape is ok though.

I normally do but all my tape and sleeving except grey tape has gone walkies

I normally have 2 of each and a couple m coil of g+y, blue and brown

I have to do that a lot, ive lost count how much lid ive had to cut on th pi $$ because the monkey that originally cut the trunking cant use a bloody set square.

when people mess up its surprising how creative you have to become to solve the problem

Exactly, this is the bridge I/we are trying to build for the people in training. We could talk all day long about regs and part p etc etc etc, trying to get the "real world" teachings into the Trainees is another thing and some thing that I try to post up. We need more "real world" topics without taking the trainees away from their education to pass the exams, not easy is it when you think about it???


Anyway things are in the pipeline, more threads are going to be posted up and try to get a bit more activity in here along the above lines. Mentors, post up your threads, we all love them.

the other problem now a days is good mentors are few and far between.

best bloke I have ever worked with left the company because he had enough and worked for himself for a bit, now he is up and down the country after being headhunted by one of his old apprentices

Trev and I have worked a couple of times together and every time the job gets done to a great standard. We also have a good laugh. Same frame of mind, help out the ones that need it. In here is just words, great to show people how to do the tricks of the trade face to face. Top bloke is Trev, I've got nothing but respect for him.

Before the Trainee section was set up I have got a trainee through her exams and is now completing her final couple of exams to complete her dreams of becoming an Electrician. We are now working on the next stage of getting a business set up for her. It will take two years but it is worth it. Trev, passing on your skills is very worth while, Tony is 100% correct in what he says.

It will be a shorter list if we look for things done right...but I'll give it a shot.

Sheath not brought into fitting.
CPC joined to live conductors.
CPC not sleeved.
Black used as switched active without sleeve.
Flex not hooked over notches to take weight of lamp.
Extremely messy cables.
Looks like only two T+E coming in, so likely the last fitting on the circuit, otherwise I'd be listing discontinuous earth as well.

I'm desperately hoping this is a deliberate wind up and not the work of a 'tradesman'. I'm a first year apprentice, and if I put up a job like that my master would chase me down the main street putting the boot in each time he caught me.

I think you have caught them, well done.
The cpc is not continuous and so the light switch would not have a cpc run to it, though this is all part of the cpc to live conductors problem.
(For UK I would use "switched line" and not "switched active" just as a nomenclature for exams thing)

This was a DIY attempt, oddly the light did not work!
I would normally hope that no one not even a DIY approach would do this, but there are many people who will try the strangest things.
