I think ,if it's possible, some kind of rep system should be introduced or something. Just something to distinguish between guys who are guessing/still training and those who actually use the brb with their contributions.

Point noted.

Not sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk yet, as the feckin thing hasnt been activated. :D

It never, ever fails to amaze me the number of "electricians" that haven't the first clue about the earthing arrangements present on the system they've either just inspected, just installed, just upgraded, or just taken a ---- all over.

It's all the more bloody ridiculous, to be honest, since you can bet your bottom dollar that the FIRST thing they ever heard regarding electrical education were the words ON SITE GUIDE.

And lo and behold, turn your On Site Guides to the first meaningful chapter, obviously, chapter 2 --------

There's barely half a dozen words before the nice little pictures start, which show VERY clearly how each type of system is set out.

On a related note - are we discussing the idiot that was on about upgrading a 6mm supplier's earth somewhere earlier? Scary, indeed.

If you don't know, don't f****ing touch.

Ho hum.....bug.

Perfectly put and to the point!

Do you mean something like the post count, or something more like the 'thanks' system?
Or maybe the guys who have 'proven' themselves could have their username in a different colour with a separate private forum to slag people off in.

No idea what the current colours in usernames mean.....but that might work, as might the "level" title - you know, like junior member, etc - but I think that's tied to the number of posts made.

I think we should make all the trainees wear short trousers so we can tell.

Other than that, honesty. The trainees/chancers are usually pretty easy to spot.

Ordinary common or garden members are in dark blue, Arms members are in red, sponsors are in green, and the rest are like mods and that (rocker is in red ;)).

I've seen a few posts now where even arms members are giving inaccurate advice.

As of late, when I see a post that says 'i've just finished doing a CU change, what tests do I need to do' etc etc and the poster has only joined the forum and has only a few posts to their name, I tend to read it a have a chuckle to myself thinking can't wait to read through all the advice they are given.

Don't feel I should be helping chancers as I wouldn't do it in my day to day working life.

Proof, as if it were needed, that none of us know everything, I guess.

IMO, always good to comment if you notice inaccurate advice, as we can all learn from it!

I am seeing lately a lot more "i am newly qualified what is this and what is that"

Why not start giving advice to each other within the arms and this way we know we are talking to other sparkies

there is a user who recently joined who I have just seen a post asking if all mcb's fit all boards - surely experience would answer this

Well chaps ill be the first to hold my hands up and say ive missed a few point in some of the answers i have given, mainly not wording it right and maybe miss out some info but on the whole i do try and be as accurate as i can ,we all have differant interprataions of the regs so on here the info is realy good i too see some of the questions that have been asked are well oh my goodness why are you doing the job if you dont know that simple thing and it realy boils down to people either not having the regs and info avalable or just not knowing how and where to find it in the regs even after 25 years in the trade now working for my self i still come across things in the regs which make me think , thats why i like this forum and you guys are so helpfull which i would like to thank you all for doesnt half make life easier as jason said its a nice friendly place ,and thats what i like about it ,id like it to stay that way and not end up with the chewing gum im an electrician attitude you get when you walk into some wholesalers . on a more intresting not the thread started about earthing arragements , i had a cert that was marked down as TT and TNS in fact it was a TNCS did laugh

There's a fine line to be trodden between the " I have 30 Years under my belt" brigade and those that, maybe have entered later in life, personally, and I am happy to be challenged on this, I think you should be qualified to level 3, be 17th updated at a minimum to enter the 'Arms' I have my certs and more than happy to forward copies to admin, I have made mistakes, minor one's when replying to some posts, and I have no issue with other members taking me to task over it...In fact I positively encourage it..That way I learn. I think we, and by we I mean the Electrical trade, although not happy with it, need to accept the world has moved on, not necessarily for the better, but we are where we are, if newbs come on and they are suss, ask some questions about their background, training, remember NO ONE is obliged to reply to a question, or read a thread, but there may be a few good guys out there that want to better themselves and their family's futures.

ATB Steve

Nice one steve, its the way we all learn even with 25 years under my belt lol
