I would say it provides protection against short circuit currents, overload currents (the MCB element) and earth fault currents (the RCD element).

What's the source of this question?
 
Some of these mock exam questions are written by Mickey Mouse.
I suppose they do make for a bit of research and questioning on the part of the reader . But if you were to take their answers as gospel you may fail the exam .
