Transitioning to working for yourself

I’m 23 and for the past year or so I’ve had a steady flow of my own work come in, 2/3 days a week (some stuff I’ve had to get someone else to do as I don’t have time) I want to solely do my own stuff but the transition seems awkward. I sub full time to other companies at whatever long term contract jobs I can find (usually in London ) and I want to stop doing that, I’d like to work part time for a firm so I can build my own stuff up on the side, but that can be unheard of.

I guess I’m asking for peoples experiences in the move they made from making someone else’s money to making their own, it’s something I eventually want to happen.

You can work for yourself and still subby for other firms at the same time.
You own jobs will be much more financially rewarding but you may not have enough work to fill a 40hour week.
Nearly every sparks I know and have known does their own side work.
You can make decent money doing side work , like board changes etc

save some money up,
enough to cover you for a couple of weeks with no work.
keep that as your emergency fund.

save some more around about the same amount and call that your parts fund.
when your working for yourself you need ready cash to buy all the stuff you intend to fit.

if you are willing to work hard at it, self employment is fantastic.

p.s. keep on good terms with other sparks, when you are busy you can hand work to them or get them to sub for you, its a 2 way street they will do the same for you.
