TV On Chimney Breast

Hi folks,

Have a customer that wants me to put a socket half way up the chimnet breast in their lounge so that they can mount the tv on the wall and see no wires. I have advised them against this as they have a working gas fire and the chimney gets quite hot but they want it doing anyway.

Their is a socket and aerial point to the left of the chimney so was going to spur from this but my question is, how do I get the wire to the socket on the front of the chimney without going through the chimney due to the heat. I am also not allowed to lift any laminate flooring as they do not want it damaging.

dont do what a spark in the company i worked for last did and drill a hole through the chimney , what you could do is get a piece of ceiling trunking looks like coving and put this round the top of the chimney breast ,run up the ressesed corner into the trunking and then drop down from above wouldnt reccomend a chase you can get some quite attractive oval trunking to drop down

Just to ask the question.

Do you think it is ok to chase into the chimney breast or advise against it?

only from skirting board up the height of a 1 gang box just for a socket?

I used this on my upstairs chimney breast but as you will have the fire at the bottom and don't have access to the top i can't see it being any use to you. But i would advise against chasing a chimney breast.

Does anyone else think mounting a tv above a gas fire is asking for trouble?
You're not even supposed to put mirrors above open fires, never mind expensive electronic equipment.

A socket above the fire is asking for trouble, but a TV even more so. I know in the current climate you probably need all the work you can get but in this case, if the customer will not listen to reason, my advice is walk away.

guilty mine has been fine 42" panasonic plasma and been up there for 3 years now.

not got a socket above it though, and the temp of the tv runs at the same temp as the same one in the bedroom that`s on the wall
