If i have a large (or long) ring main to wire i sometimes use 4.0mm. Have one in a barn conversion to wire, only 5 sockets but total run will be around 60metres. What would use?

If the total enclosed area is less than 100M2 and there is no excessive load then i believe you can use 2.5 T&E. Some one who knows better will be along shortly though.

agree with pushrod. i think 2.5mm would be fine as long as floor area doesnt exceed 100 square metres if served by 30/32A.

You must also take into account the route of the cable.

More than likely lots of derating needed due to insulation etc so, personally i would choose 4mm.

Although its bigger, its actually easier to use as its stranded and not solid core.
